Twin needles help you make the most of the range of stitches on your sewing machine. You can create some really pretty decorative effects but we think they really come into their own when you are sewing knits/jerseys/stretchy fabrics.
When sewing stretchy fabrics you need to use a stretchy stitch - usually a zig zag stitch. When you use a twin needle, the really clever thing is, you get the best of both worlds, a straight stitch on the front of your garment and the much-needed zig zag on the back - amazing!
You don't need any special equipment to use a twin needle, they fit your machine in the same way as a regular needle.
WHERE DOES THE EXTRA REEL OF COTTON GO?
Many sewing machines have more than one place to put your cotton reel, so just use two at once! The threads can be fed through the same loops and hooks as each other to get the needle without any problem.
If you don't have a second place to place your cotton, either use a bobbin for your second reel and simply place it on the end of your first reel of cotton, or place your second reel in a mug behind your sewing machine and feed it through all the same hooks and loops from there.
