During our 8 week introduction to dressmaking course you will complete 4 projects!
The fabric for week 1 is included in the price but you will need to provide the fabric for weeks 2-8, we will provide all other materials.
Week 1 - Skirts
- You can choose between a classic a-line skirt or wrap.
- We will cover reading patterns, making pattern pieces, cutting fabrics, seam finishes, simple zip insertion.
Weeks 2-3 - Tops Made to Fit
- We will make a classic vest top. A vest top is versatile and easy to sew, giving us the opportunity to focus on getting the perfect fit - moving darts and adjusting the top to make it fit your bust.
- Skills covered will include using bias tape, under and edge stitching, grading patterns, moving darts and adjusting patterns for a large or small bust.
Week 4-5 - Shorts/Trousers
- You can choose between shorts, trousers and PJ bottoms.
- Skills covered will include sewing lapped zips, interfacing and buttonholes.
Week 5-8 - The Dress
- You can choose to make a reverse wrap dress, classic shift or cocktail dress.
- We will be consolidating all the skills covered earlier in the course whilst making a staple dress for your wardrobe.
Book additional courses/workshops within 6 months of the start of your course and save 10%.
Save money on sewing kit essentials including cutting mats, scissors, rotary cutters, needles and cotton - special price list will be sent out with your joining instructions and items will be available throughout the course, so you really can try before your buy!
WHO: If you have your own sewing machine you are encouraged to bring it , there is nothing like learning on your own machine (or you can use one of ours). Although all skill levels are welcome to attend, you will find it easier if you have already had some practice with a sewing machine - however long ago and however basic! If you are completely new to sewing we recommend starting with our 5 week introduction to sewing course, or at least completing one of our other single session workshops to get comfortable with a sewing machine. IMPORTANT: patterns used fit upto a UK size 24.
WHAT: Over 7 weeks you will make a range of projects, each designed to build your skill base, from basic stitches and pattern cutting, to choosing and using interfacing, sewing with zips and adding buttonholes.
WHERE: Course are held in Witney or Ducklington depending on class size and your own needs.
WHEN: As this is a bespoke course we will agree a day and time to suit you. We are able to offer slots during the daytime or evening, or at weekends. Each lesson takes approx 2.5 hours. Email us at firstname.lastname@example.org to check out our availability before booking.
WHAT IS A ONE TO ONE OR MORE COURSE?
If you can't make one of our group courses, or would like to complete a workshop or course which isn't currently running as a group course, then a 'one to one or more' course might be just what you need!
We are happy to teach all our group courses to individuals, or small groups of friends, find the course you are interested in, and view the price for the number of people who want to learn together above. Contact us to select a date and time to suit your schedule and we can take it from there - once a date has been set you can pay in one go using the website, or we can divide the cost between the participants and invoice you all separately (the only days/times we can never do are Monday or Tuesday mornings).
If your group is larger than 4 no problem, if you are able to provide a venue then the overall cost of the course will go up by £217 for every additional participant. If you would like us to provide a venue there is a flat rate of £480 for that (remember, if your group is 4 or less the venue cost is already covered). If any of this is unclear please do ask, we are happy to provide a quote.

If you need to cancel within 3 weeks of the start date, we are sorry but we cannot offer you a refund or transfer.
