- find that clothes patterns never quite work for your shape,
- are interested in upcycling clothes,
- want to make alternations to existing clothes,
- or fancy designing your own clothes
then this is the course for you!
WEEK 1 - Create the Sloper
We will use your measurements to create a classic skirt sloper, making it up in muslin - this will not be a wearable garment, but something that will allow us to identify issues with the fit and make corrections.
WEEK 2 - Create the Skirt Pattern
We will use your finished sloper to create an actual, made to measure, skirt pattern based on your own preferences for skirt and waistband style.
WEEK 3 (OPTIONAL) - Making Your Skirt
During week 3 we will start putting the skirt together (you will need approx 2mtrs of fabric). Depending on the final design of your skirt, your sewing speed and your ability to take on homework between week's 2 and 3, you may not get the skirt finished. You will have a pattern and full set of instructions to help you finish your skirt, plus we are always available to provide extra support via the telephone or email if you get stuck and you can always opt to book a one to one or join one of our Sewical sessions to finish your skirt.
"The process of creating a sloper teaches you so much about your own shape, the function of the various parts of the pattern and the impact changes will have - you will never look at a sewing pattern in the same way again, and will never have looked so good in your clothes!"
SUITABLE FOR: The sewing involved is quite straightforward. However, if you have never sewn before we recommend getting some practice in before signing up for this course. Trying to learn about designing patterns and how to use a sewing machine at the same time would be a stretch for all but the most confident individuals and we want you to be relaxed and have fun!
SKILLS COVERED: Drawing patterns from scratch, making alterations to skirt pattern pieces, basic dressmaking skills.
WHERE: Course are held in Witney or Ducklington depending on class size and your own needs.
WHEN: As this is a bespoke course we will agree days and times to suit you. We are able to offer slots during the daytime or evening, or at weekends. Each lesson takes approx 2.5 hours. Email us at email@example.com to check out our availability before booking.
WHAT IS A ONE TO ONE OR MORE COURSE?
If you can't make one of our group courses, or would like to complete a workshop or course which isn't currently running as a group course, then a 'one to one or more' course might be just what you need!
We are happy to teach all our group courses to individuals, or small groups of friends, find the course you are interested in, and view the price for the number of people who want to learn together above. Contact us to select a date and time to suit your schedule and we can take it from there - once a date has been set you can pay in one go using the website, or we can divide the cost between the participants and invoice you all separately (the only days/times we can never do are Monday or Tuesday mornings).
If your group is larger than 4 no problem, if you are able to provide a venue then the overall cost of the course will go up by £57 for every additional participant (£82 for the 3 session version). If you would like us to provide a venue there is a flat rate of 25 per lesson for that (remember, if your group is 4 or less the venue cost is already covered). If any of this is unclear please do ask, we are happy to provide a quote.
KEY TERMS & CONDITIONS
Payment is required at the point of booking your place on one of our workshops or sewing courses.
In you need to cancel up to 3 weeks before the start of the class, we will offer you the choice of transferring to another date, or a refund minus a £15 cancellation fee (if we manage to sell the place this reduces to £5).
If you need to cancel within 3 weeks of the start date, we are sorry but we cannot offer you a refund or transfer. With less than 3 week's notice it is difficult for us to fill places and it isn't fair on other people who would have liked a place, had they had more notice. We can put you on a reserve list for a future date, and if we still have spaces 3 weeks before the start of a course, we will slot you in at no additional cost.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us - email firstname.lastname@example.org, call 01993 700411, or pop along to one of our pop-up shops (click here for details) to meet us in person and find out more!
